Shared Wisdom Guest Post – Featuring Lori Portka
I am nice.
Really. I am so good at being nice. For most of my life this has served me very well.
This niceness.
It’s easy to get along with others when you are nice. You have lots of friends when you are nice. People mostly like you…when you are nice.
I think my first lesson in niceness began in the womb. My mother has a deep seated belief that girls should be respectable and polite. They should follow directions and obey all of the rules. More

I have a secret to share:
Before I started blogging, I rarely read blogs.
It’s true.
It wasn’t that I had an aversion to them – they simply weren’t on my radar. I hadn’t been exposed to them – I didn’t quite understand them.
However, once I began to write my own blog, I found myself reading other blogs and truly connecting with the writers behind them. I have made such wonderful friendships through blogging and read some amazing posts along the way.
I would More

Each Friday, I usually choose one of your questions and do my best to offer guidance and support to help you along your journey.
But this Friday is different – I’m instead asking each of you (and myself) a question. And I would love if we could all look within our souls and find the answer. If you feel comfortable doing so, I would love for you to leave your answer below.
I was watching Oprah’s lifeclass tonight, More

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time to write a post about gratitude!
You can read my previous posts by clicking here.
I am grateful that outdated, limiting beliefs can be shifted and changed. If we are aware of them and have the desire to change them, we can attach our thoughts to another belief that fits a bit better for who we are right now in this moment.
For as long as I can remember, I have had the belief that life is a struggle. It began in my childhood and has continued on throughout More

Today, I vow to live my life.
MY life.
Not the life that I think I am supposed to live.
Not the life that my loved ones want me to live.
Not the life that I was brought up to live.
MY life.
The life where I wake up each morning and put my authentic foot forward.
The life where I continually reach higher and higher toward my higher purpose.
The life where I keep my word to myself and to others.
The life where I put into practice More

I live in an amazing state. Oregon truly has it all – natural beauty, perfect weather (yes, it’s true!), and kind people. Dan and I chose to move here two years ago based on a gut feeling – we both had a knowing deep inside that this was our forever home. I had never even been to Oregon, but I knew that this is where I needed to be. And I’m so glad we followed our hunches – I am still in awe of this state and what I have seen so far.
However, I work a lot. A LOT. And More

“If only I were thin enough, rich enough, better‐looking…THEN I could stop being so hard on myself.” Have you ever had that thought? If only your circumstances were different you could then magically shift your internal dialogue into an empowering, nurturing, loving one, right? After more than a decade of coaching people from every walk of life, I finally got it: we are hard on ourselves despite our More

I am a fan of authentic living – of being raw and vulnerable – of showing the world our truest self. I know that this doesn’t always come naturally to us. It’s normal to want to put our representative out there – the part of us that is polished and poised. However, that’s not always where we are.
We are all on this same journey of life – navigating our way through it in the best way that we know how to. And I find it so refreshing More

Each Friday, I usually choose one of your questions and do my best to offer guidance and support to help you along your journey.
But this Friday is different – I’m turning the tables and asking YOU for guidance! We all have so much to offer, and I know that we can get some great bits of wisdom if we each look within our soul and find the answer.
So here is the question:
When you’re feeling a bit down, how do you perk yourself up? What is your go-to remedy that always makes More
