It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time to write a post about gratitude!

Sometimes it’s hard to say goodbye to a part of our life that has felt like home for so long. It’s become a part of ourselves that feels like a comfy pair of jeans – and even though they are old and wearing thin in places, we love them – or at least we used to love them.

That’s what’s hard: differentiating between currently loving this part of our life versus having loved it but no longer feeling in love with it. It’s just no longer there. You want to love it because it’s been with you for so long. You want to keep it near you because it’s become a part of you. And yet, you realize that it no longer feels good to you.

And when you realize this and recognize this to be true, you have a couple of choices. You can continue wearing this worn out pair of comfy jeans, or you can go buy yourself a brand new pair – the ones you’ve had your eye on for awhile – the ones that fit you perfectly – the ones you are completely in love with.

I have been wearing my own comfy pair of jeans for many, many years. I thought I would be wearing them forever. And then today it hit me: they no longer represent the me that I want to be – the me that I know I can be. They no longer make me feel good. They no longer bring a spring to my step when I wear them.

So today, I am going to make a change. I am going to take them off and vow to never wear them again. I am going to start consciously looking for that pair of jeans that feels just right – and not settle for anything less.

I am so grateful for this new beginning. I am ready to begin anew. It’s been a long time coming, and I can’t wait to see what is on the horizon.

And for this twinkle of excitement – this tiny sparkle of newness that I am feeling in this moment – I am grateful.
