So often, we resist fear. We see it as something to be, well, feared. And what we resist persists. And so the more that we push fear aside and the longer we go without really looking at it and figuring out where it is coming from, the more that we let it drive and continue to control us. The bigger we allow it to become.
But here’s something to remember: Fear only exists in our minds.
It is a human emotion. When we are in spirit form, there is never a need for fear – only love. And fear and love can’t exist at the same time. It’s true!
When we are on Earth, we sometimes forget about love. We sometimes forget that we are made of love and can always go back to our loving core. We allow our minds to take over, which causes an imbalance. And it’s in this imbalance that fear is allowed in.
I believe that fear is the absence of love. It could be the absence of self love. The absence of romantic love. The absence of feeling universal love. When we feel that any of these are missing from our lives, we create a space that fear is able to step into.
But that’s not to say that fear is a negative emotion. It is a tool to help us learn more about ourselves. It is here for a reason. If we always remembered that we are made of love and always had access to divine love at any given time, it would be a blissful existence, but it wouldn’t necessarily be a human existence. We know these things in spirit form, but it’s a process to remember them when we are in human form.
By acknowledging the fear in our lives, we diminish its power. Fear can’t live where there is love. So by embracing fear and surrounding it with our love energy, we make it impossible for it to exist in our lives. We make it possible to move through our fears. We make it possible to live on purpose – to live the life we were meant to live rather than the life we are living because we have been afraid to live.
Are you ready to embrace your fear?
The following exercise will help you embrace and then release your fear – it will help you visualize your fear dissolving into love.
Take a few deep breaths. In and out. In and out. And repeat until you’re feeling relaxed and centered.
And now, close your eyes and imagine that you are in a bubble that is filled with light – a bright, white light that is warm and radiates love. You are in the center, and this light is all around you. You are floating inside this beautiful white bubble – peaceful and calm.
Now imagine that you scan through your entire body looking for your fears. You start with your toes and work your way up – gathering up your fear and moving it all to the top of your head. And then imagine that the crown of your head opens up and you allow one fear to come into the bubble.
You see the words that describe the fear floating around. For instance, if you’re afraid of public speaking, you would see those words, etc.
And now imagine that you allow this bubble’s loving energy to soak up and embrace this fear. Imagine that this fear can’t exist in such a loving space, and so it simply gets absorbed by the light that’s all around you.
And you do this one by one, until all of your fear is absorbed – until all of your fear becomes light. Until all of your fear becomes love.
And then take several deep breaths. And just be in this loving space for a few more moments. And when you’re ready, open your eyes and enjoy this feeling of lightness that has come over you!
Please repeat this exercise any time you’re feeling like fear is beginning to take over. Embrace it and then allow it to dissolve into love.

Hugs,
I so agree with you here. Fear is our teacher if we listen and pay attention. I first read about the fear and love thing in Marianne Williamson’s Return to Love decades ago. Love that stuff!

Hi Amy!
I just recently started reading that book for the first time – so far, I really like it! So glad you stopped by! 🙂
I absolutely love this article- lots to think about, thank you Jodi. Fear is a catalyst for allowing us to ask lots of important questions of ourselves and our lives, but it’s often easy to forget this.
Thank you! x
Hi Katie!
Thanks so much! 🙂
You’re absolutely right that fear can be so helpful in our lives – if we’re willing to take a look at it and listen to what it’s teaching us about ourselves.
Hugs!
I just finished reading a book about self love, and you’re very right that fear is the absence of love. Even just being gentle with yourself and accepting it. That took a great learning leap when it came to my anxiety. Thank you for the reminder!
Hi Isabelle,
As someone who has lived with anxiety since I was a child, I definitely can relate to how lifechanging it feels to be gentle with yourself. I’m so happy that you are embracing and loving yourself now. Hugs!
Wonderful fear busting exercise thanks Jodi xx
Hi Suzie!

Hi Martha!
You’re so welcome! I hope it’s helpful for you.
Hugs!
I tried this and it works. The feeling is definitely one of turning fear into love but also a wonderful sense of peace.
Thanks Jodi.
Hi Linda!
Yay! I’m so glad that it was helpful for you. And I love that you felt at peace, too. Beautiful.
Hugs!
Jodi, I absolutely agree with you: fear is the absence of love; every single time. I notice this with myself: when I have a really bad body image day or week, there’s a fear inside: a fear of being judged, ridiculed, not being seen as beautiful or competent. However, the moment I allow myself to feel the fear , I create a space for healing. Pushing away fear doesn’t help; but saying yes, I am scared of this and that helps a lot.
Hi Anne-Sophie!
You’re absolutely right! There is something really powerful about allowing our fear to come into the light. Its power over us begins to dissipate. I’m so glad you’ve found that, too. XO
This is a great exercise Jodi. Thank you so much for sharing this. I can see the glowing bubble absorbing all my fears <3
Excellent tips Jodi. I loved the way you wrote it. I really moved by this line, “I believe that fear is the absence of love.” . I appreciate your efforts for this lesson learning post.
