I’m so excited to introduce you to an authentic spirit, a super talented writer, and a wise soul: Lori Deschene!
Many of you know her already – she has graced us with her beautiful words and wonderful blog, Tiny Buddha, for several years. What began on Twitter in 2008 has grown into one of the most popular personal growth blogs in the world. I absolutely love the positive, comforting space she’s created – it’s a great refuge to go to when life feels a bit overwhelming.
Lori recently launched her Tiny Wisdom Ebook Series, which consists of 5 books that are filled with nuggets of love, hope, and definitely tons of wisdom. Lori’s unique ability to connect us with her experiences and make us feel like they are our own is beautiful and refreshing. Her conscious contemplation is honest and heartfelt. She pulls the truth out of everyday moments and shines the light on the sometimes elusive present moment.
These sweet books are perfect for reading one post each morning and carrying its wisdom with you throughout the day. Or – if you’re like me and can’t put them down – they are also great to read straight through! These ebooks will help you awaken to the magic of each moment and also to the magic that always resides within you.
And Lori is giving 2 complete sets away to 2 lucky winners!
Be sure to read my soulful interview with her, and the keep scrolling down to enter this giveaway!
While I was reading through each Tiny Wisdom ebook, I found myself nodding and feeling like I was right there with you in each story that you shared and each lesson that came from it. We share so much in common, which I’m sure you hear a lot from your readers. We are all more alike than we realize, and you have created such a beautiful community where we can feel supported and a part of something amazing.
You write about how you were much more closed off to trusting others when you first started tinybuddha. How has the community helped you open up and allow yourself to let others in, trust, and love more openly?
First of all, thank you for the kind words regarding the site! I love that there’s such an open-hearted community of people there, and that I get to be part of that. The most helpful part of running the site, for me, has been connecting with other people who’ve dealt with (and currently deal with) the same challenges.
When I read a story from someone who’s felt the same things I have, suddenly I see myself in them and vice versa, and realize there’s no reason to be afraid of them. We’re all in the same boat, doing the best we can.
That’s what’s most helpful to me, when it comes to letting people in: recognizing we’re not all that different, and that releasing that separate, isolated feeling is worth the discomfort of being vulnerable.
I love your honesty about not having it all figured out – yet you keep coming back to the present moment where all of the magic lives. And you keep coming back to living fully. I know that my days are a mix of feeling awake and fully present to drifting off and having hours go by where I realize I wasn’t living consciously at all. I’m sure we all go back and forth constantly. How does this balance work for you? Do you have any triggers that help you come back to the present moment?
I go back and forth constantly as well! I practice yoga regularly, and that helps me maintain a greater ratio of present-to-not-present moments.
As for daily practices, I rely heavily on deep breathing and grounding exercises, like walking through my back yard barefoot. Just rooting myself in my body helps a great deal—especially since I have a tendency to get caught up in my head.
I also practice tree pose almost every day. It’s a one-legged balancing pose that really helps create a sense of inner calm and focus. For readers who’ve never done it, you lift one leg and rest the sole of your foot on the inside of the other one, whether it’s at your shin or higher up your thigh. It’s simple but powerful!
You write about your journey (like mine and so many of ours) being about learning how to love yourself completely and unconditionally. I love how you write that self love is a constant choice we can make. For instance, there are days that go by where I don’t take any time to rest from the moment I wake up until I crash onto my bed at night. Was someone forcing me to push this hard? Of course not.
Self love is that part of our soul that reminds us that we deserve to be treated in the wonderful way that we treat everyone else. Can you share a few ways that you have chosen to take care of yourself?
Sure! One thing I try to do regularly is ask myself, “What do I really need?” The answer to that differs from day to day and moment to moment. One day I might need to get out and be social; another day I might need to retreat and reflect. Some days I might need to get some physical exercise; another day I may need to take it easy.
I find just asking this question helps me a great deal, because I’m reinforcing to myself that my needs are important, even if someone else wants me to do something else.
Another thing that helps me is “resetting.” I can sometimes be hard on myself, and then if I’m not mindful, I can be hard on myself for being hard on myself. It can be a vicious cycle that’s difficult to stop.
When I notice myself doing this, I take a deep breath and tell myself, “reset”—as in let it all go and start fresh from where I stand. This one’s powerful for me, because it brings me in the moment and helps me clear mental clutter.
You are a brilliant writer whose wisdom shows through in every word. How do you tap into your inner wisdom? I truly believe that this inner knowing resides within each of us, but it’s often covered up with pain, self doubt, and anger. How are you able to bypass those things and tap into your soul’s wisdom?
Thank you so much! I agree with your assessment, about the wisdom we all possess. I do a lot of writing while listening to music that moves me. I find this helpful because it takes me out of that intellectual, logical place in my head, and moves me to a place where the words come from my heart.
I think getting out of our heads is crucial for forming insights and epiphanies. So many times we know what’s right, but ironically, we can’t access it because we’re thinking too much to feel it. That’s where it comes from—it’s not about mentally willing ourselves to find an answer, but rather giving ourselves space to feel it with every ounce of our being.
What wisdom do you hope someone will gain in their own life after reading the Tiny Wisdom Ebook Series?
I hope the ebooks will help people make tiny shifts in thinking, being, and feeling in a way that will make a big difference in their experience of the world. That’s usually what I write about: the little observations and insights that can change everything, without actually having to change everything.

Wow! Always a pleasure to read Lori’s writing. One question I can totally identify with asking myself in moments of indecisiveness is “What do I really need?” There’s something about this simple yet powerful question that opens up an easy way to regroup our thoughts.
The Tree pose is very, very effective.
Enjoyed the post, Jodi and Lori, so wonderful to see you here.
Love, Vidya
Tiny Wisdom of Love is something I really need right now. My relationship is really unbalanced at the moment. I love some of those post titles too! “The Illusion of Tomorrow” — aint’ that the truth!
I will say that I’m especially hard on myself. I could use a reset button today. I’ll try a few of your techniques—especially the standing on one foot thing. I think I learned that in a yoga class a few years ago.
When I read the titles, I immediately thought of other people I know who may love each and every one of these titles. One person who is struggling with happiness and another who is making unloving choices for herself. And when I feel others need something, no doubt it is something I need in my own life as well.
Happiness. Definitely happiness. 😀 Seek joy, y’all!
Self love is what I am working on right now. I know as I love myself more the world will be a better place for all.
Been following Lori’s lovely thoughts for quite awhile now… love they way once you read them instantly deep inside you can hear the YES bubbling up.
At the moment Mindfulness is speaking to me…
and as Satia posted each title instantly has been thinking of people in my life
who are in need of these words but not there yet… yes to place the perfect words into their hands, then into their hearts.. would be awesome.
whoever receives the gift, minds will be opened by the words , and hopefully will be put into practice in their lives.
What a beautiful collection of wisdom and sharing from Lori D.! I am definitely looking forward to reading each and every Tiny Wisdom book, but am immediately drawn toward “Self-Love”. I am discovering that to adore myself, to love myself unconditionally, enables me to extend this love to others and the Earth; and the pleasure and joy I feel in being alive pleases the Divine! I love this quotation by Richard Parsons ~
our presence is our message
we have become what we were searching for
With gratitude & blessings, Lyssanda
Definitely Happiness…struggling with that right now.
I love Tiny Buddha. Lori’s words are simple but straight to the heart. I’m most looking forward to reading the book about Mindfulness, because I think that’s the key to everything. When my mind is still and calm, I find that everything else falls into place naturally.
Was awesome and inspiring to read this interview with Lori. Her warmth, honesty and openness shone through
I’m an avid fan of Tiny Buddha, but I didn’t even know she had a ebook series until now (Mayhaps my vision is a bit dense or perhaps it needs to be placed more prominently w/i the site…).
All of the books in the series hold equal value and merit, but if I had to choose only one, it would be the one on love.
love’n’light,
Patty
I am mostly interested in the “self-Love” Tiny Buddah Book. How can you love others if you don’t love yourself! Have a beautiful day 🙂
What a wonderful set of ebooks! Thank-you so much Jodi for sharing this interview and thank-you Lori for this giveaway opportunity!
I would love to read the one on mindfulness, it is something that I am always working on.
Wow! These books look amazing. I cannot even decide which title I would pick because as I saw each one, it had a lesson that I could immediately identify with my life right now. Thanks for the chance to win!
Wonderful interview Jodi and Lori. It’s great to learn more about tiny buddha and who would want to miss out on winning those fabulous books.
Tiny Wisdom on Self-Love is the sage insight I am looking forward to reading. Especially when my life becomes more challenging than I find comfortable, my inner critic likes to spar and lob fairly incendiary comments my way. Lori’s nurturing perspective through Tiny Buddha has always been a balm.
“I think getting out of our heads is crucial for forming insights and epiphanies. So many times we know what’s right, but ironically, we can’t access it because we’re thinking too much to feel it. ” — I had a conversation yesterday with someone about how emotion short-circuits our ability to be open and mindful of others when they hit a hot-topic or hot-button of ours.
I look forward to reading the book on Mindfulness. Thank you for the opportunity to win and I enjoyed reading this interview. It is very inspiring and affirming!
I’m really looking forward to reading the Happiness book!
Looking forward to the happiness book, although I feel that happiness can’t fully be achieved without undertanding pain, love, self-love, and mindfulness. It’s like a well-oiled machine when you put all the parts together, so I’m looking forward to ALL OF THEM!
I am looking forward to reading the one on Mindfulness ~ that has been my focus lately! <3 Namaste
I’m looking forward to read the book tiny wisdom on pain, but I’d like to read all tiny wisdom books, I think they all have amazing life lessons.
So excited for these books! Especially Happiness. You can never have too much of that <3
I’m looking forward to reading the self love book. So many times when I am critical of someone, I am also being critical and unforgiving of my self. Other people’s needs end up trampling mine and then I feel put upon and even more critical or judgmental of others. Ugh! The mindfulness book is a close second. Thanks for the words of wisdom!
Loved the facebook page of Tiny Buddha and look forward to
winning the e-series books on Pain and Mindfulness…
Blessings
Happiness, Mindfulness
Both books have come at the right time. I am grateful.Thank You!
I absolutely adore the idea behind these set of books and if I had them, I’d read the Mindfulness one first! I hope you accept entries from the UK. Thank you! 🙂
Mindfulness and Pain that’s what I need to read now…
thanks anyway
neena
Greetings! Every time I lose my balance, I seek the wisdom of Tiny Buddha as the words speaks loudly and clearly to the confused me. I tend to see life in a black and white manner and Tiny Buddha is helping me to appreciate the shades of grey. It’s a slow process, one where i have to internally battle to let go of my ego self. There are times when i lose it, but mostly, i am taking small turtle steps by being kinder to my self and that’s thanks to Lori D for sharing her struggles and wisdom, letting me know that it’s alright. That I don’t have to be my own worst enemy. That I don’t have to control every thing and iron fist my way through life. That this isn’t a race. It helps me breathe and not beat my self up. I have saved most of the articles from the blog so that i can re-read whenever I need to. My friends say they could see a little shift in me, and the credit goes to Tiny Buddha.
I would love any book from the series which would help a “recovery control freak”. Thank you for creating a Tiny Buddha. It changed my life.
ITS HAPPINESS, HAPPINESS AND MORE HAPPINESS SO THAT WE CAN MAKE THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR THE 90 % WHO SEEM TO BE CAUGHT UP IN A HORRIBLE DREAM OF IMAGINED SORROW.
THANKS FOR CLEARING THE AIR OF ALL SORROW AND UNWANTED MISERY
I look forward to reading all the Tiny wisdom ebooks, but most of all, Tiny wisdom on Pain. I would love to gain more insight on pain and how to take control through someone else’s wisdom.
Good luck to all!
All of the Tiny wisdom ebooks would be a wonderful read and very insightful. After having had Glandular Fever on and off for the past four years, I think that the Tiny wisdom of mindfulness and/or self love would be the most beneficial read for me. I would love to gain more insight into how to manage my thoughts and control my stress levels.
Namaste!
What a pleasant surprise ro stumble on this interview, Jodi! I’ve been a Tiny Buddha fan for awhile and have had the honor of writing two guest posts as well! I am always interested in the topic of Self-Love. Thanks for the give-away Lori! I appreciate your work so much.
I want to read them all. I love this website…thank you so much for your insight. I have not heard of Tiny Buddha before and am so glad to know of it. Thank you again…
I loved reading this article – and I love TinyBuddha and the TB community. I just love the openness, honesty and how REAL it is. I have a handful of people in my life with whom I can connect with on such an incredible open level and reading TB feels like I’m sharing with a great friend.
Love the ‘reset’ option, will definitely be using that one!
I’m excited to read the Self-Love and Mindfulness Ebooks!
I would love to read the e-book tiny wisdom on pain. I have some challenges in my life at present & usual approach is numbing pain where possible? This approach hasn’t worked and I’m looking for some advice and strategies to cope with pain in a more positive way.
Lyn
I would love to win these books. The one I want to read the most is happiness. This website has changed the way I think and live. Thank you for a great website
Ah, the magic of the reset button – that’s one thing I can always doing with a reminder of!
Tiny Wisdom on Love is calling to me right now.
Love the idea of small steps, small changes, tiny shifts….because they add up to profound change. I think in general we often feel compelled to make big changes, big steps, big shifts all at once… and ultimately those don’t feel gentle, they trigger too much pain, and they don’t last. The little shifts make such a profound difference.
Great interview Jodi! I completely agree with Lori that we’re all doing our best in this world and there’s nothing to fear about others. We all need each other’s support doing the best we can.
My favorite topics are mindfulness and happiness and I love reading how others see these topics and incorporate them into their lives. I always learn something new.
I’m interested in reading the book on pain as I’m working through some issues in a particular situation and would love to learn from Lori.
Thanks so much Lori and Jodi!
Found Tiny Buddah a while back and loved it so bookmarked it. Nice to be reminded it’s there! Looking forward to reading the mindfulness book as tend to live quite a lot in the future especially at the moment as I’m expecting my first baby!
Yoga is really helping, especially loving taking the time to connect with my growing baby, and definitely agree with you on the tree pose.
Great interview, thanks Jodi and Lori! x
I’m looking forward to reading each publication, but most definitely the ebook on pain.
I have been dealing with a major life transition, the Death of ex husband and helping my 19 year old son grow up. the last 7 or gosh it is 8 months now have been so filled with Grief but in a strange way i have been so supported by my Buddhist practice that I feel stronger than ever. i stumbled on the Tiny Buddha book at the local book store while looking at books about grief and I really enjoyed reading the short bit i did. Thank you for your honestly, i feel lost at times that it helps to hear of others journey.
Tiny Wisdom on Happiness really resonates with me. I am so ready to live my life and make it joyful instead of ful of fear and doubt.
Thank you for this lovely interview and what a generous give-away! I would love to read the one about Self-Love. I tend to forget to take care of myself and spend way too much time taking care of others – whether they want me to or not lol. Big hugs, Karina
Tiny Wisdom on Pain is mainly what I need now plus the Tiny Wisdom of Happiness. There’s too much on my plate now that I sometimes think of just giving up. Thanks!
Wow, they sound all amazing and interesting! Thanks for this change and the interview!!!
I just liked on FB and I’d most likely read first is Mindfulness followed by Self-Love… last in the row would be Pain I suppose hehe…
Self-love is definitely the number one issue I have been working on lately. I am looking forward to it!:)
All the best,
Monika
Self-love is the best lesson of life.
I need to read Self Love – particularly the chapter “Stop Being So Hard On Yourself” I just retired last week and that little voice is already talking LOUDLY! Stop wasting time – why haven’t you gotten this done yet – etc. etc.etc 🙁 I think this is a very generous gift that you’re offering – may the blessings of the Universe come back to you many times over – NAMASTE – Wendy
Self love – yet honestly wish to read them all! Thank you.
I have enjoyed what I have read just on this page alone. I would say that I connect with each book but mostly with ‘Mindfulness’ at this stage of my life. I must constantly remind myself that I am able to do a lot more of what I believe. I must be mindful that the past and/or negative things do not have to bother me. I am working hard to be mindful of things now by letting go of stress and enjoy more of life.
What an exciting set of materials!! I too am working on the aspect of love, for the self and otherwise.
The first book i’d love to read is the Tiny Book on Self Love! Self love is something I need to cultivate in me at this time in my life. Need to focus more on Loving kindness meditation!
Thank you for publishing these books! I look forward to owning them soon!
With Metta,
Nirmanie
Oh, I so long to read the wisdom capsules on love and self-love. I believe I should nurture all my relationships, specially the realtionship I have with myself because I’ve been left behind on that front for way too long. Can´t wait to have the package with me!!
Thank you SO much for all of your soulful, honest comments!
And congratulations to the winners: Cassandra and Paige!
